Because the good guys always win. Because the prince always marries the princess. Because they always live happily ever after. Because we are left with the impression that life is going to be amazing. To be perfect. That we, the good guys, will always win. That death is reversed by love. That suffering and pain is remedied by love.
It's all shit.
In this world, Pain, suffering and death is all there is, with intermittent sprinklings of happiness. The moment you find your princess, your happily ever after, life's gonna kick you in the nuts and break your nose, then pull out your fingernails one by one and force them down your throat.
(Reminds me of a movie I just watched. The guy went through all this. Why? Because he had an end in mind. No matter what they threw at him, he swallowed it for what he believes in)
I think the most painful part is the transition from disney-land to real-world. Its the day you realise life isn't a bed of roses. No one to pick you up when you fall, no one to save the princess from the dragon. Sorry, she's gonna get tortured and killed and eaten, and you're not gonna be able to do anything about it because all you ever cared about is yourself.

Its actually because the real world sucks so much that Disney and the like came about. Its because it gives people something to believe in. Yes, its all shit, but then again, how many people can really go about their lives and stay sane knowing that the world is just shit and that there's really no end to it and nothing better at all? That no matter how hard you try, you just can't do anything about it?
ReplyDeleteOne might even say that Religion is exactly the same: offering hope where there isn't any. Since none of it can be proven, who's to say that its not all just belief in a lie that there is something better and life isn't just shit while you're alive and that's it, nothing more: when you die that's it.
On the flip side, its isn't just shit, not for everyone. There are some people who are just blessed. Who do find their princess and live happily ever after with no annoying sequel to ruin it all. Its very rare, but it does happen. What's to say you can't be one of those people?
